Viacom ropes in Bollywood biggies to create music for Voot Originals

MUMBAI: Viacom 18's digital VoD platform Voot that launched on Tuesday does not have a particular division for music on the app. So has the app with the largest repository of kids' characters in the Indian OTT space and with Viacom 18 content library given a skip to music?

Viacom 18 Digital Ventures content head Monika Shergill stated that music will be an integral part of everything that Voot does. "Music is going to be in the way we want to say something or present ourselves. It will define how quirky or happy we are. This is where music comes in a big way."

Viacom 18 Digital Ventures COO Gaurav Gandhi added, "Our brand of music that we are going to work on is creating a lot of property around it. In Voot, you will see music in every single (original) show of ours."

Voot Originals that will roll out shows in both long and short formats across genres like comedy and drama, will have music sung and composed by some well-known Bollywood artistes.

Frames Productions' 'Soadies' starring Baba Sehgal has a song written-sung and composed by Baba himself. Parin Multimedia's 'Chinese Bhasad' has music composed by Amit Trivedi. Lime Production Jar Pictures' ' Badman' starring Gulshan Grover has a song sung by Vishal Dadlani.

Voot also has a kids' promo track for their kids' offering titled 'Kaun Nahi Apne Paas.'

“We will have distinct music on our shows across genres. We are working on a lot of them," said Shergill.

Gandhi added,“They are three to two and a half minute content (songs) opening as part of our promotion. So, they are an integral part of our storyline. The idea is to have different music and not just Bollywood music."

The Voot team also wants their music to be distinct and not fall in the usual Bollywood category. Voot is currently available for free on iOS, Android and web.
