I had stopped singing: 'Love Games' singer Aanchal Shrivastava

MUMBAI: A victory post struggle is considered to be the most joyous one. 'Love Games' title track singer Aanchal Shrivastava is basking in this very glory at the moment.

Shrivastava has had her share of struggle, but she has finally managed to reach her dream destination - Bollywood playback singing.

The singers dream to become a playback artiste began with her participation in reality shows like 'Indian Idol', 'Fame X' and 'Super Singers.' But, soon this dream seemed to blur to be achieved. What was it that crushed young Shrivastava's most cherished dream?

A lot changed during the singers growing up days. One of the major changes was her voice. The singer who had a very sweet voice as a kid grew up to have a husky voice. Moreover, while she was still trying to get used to her own voice she started facing criticism from her friends.

"I often heard lines like 'fati hug awaz' and 'khar khar ho raha hai.' These comments were demoralising. After a while, I stopped singing because I couldn't take the criticism anymore," said Shrivastava.

However, 2014 turned out to be a good year for the singer as she moved to Mumbai from Madhya Pradesh where she had been working as an RJ for My FM. "This is when people started appreciating my voice yet again," stated she.

People began appreciating Shrivastava's voice but she still wasn't too confident about being a playback voice. Though, around this time she wanted her voice to reach music composers. "I started sending my music to music composers of TV shows and ad jingles. I felt it was the easiest place to get through." Unfortunately, she did not get any positive response even here. "This once again made me think if my voice was even good enough for an ad or a TV show," said the singer.

While the singer was finding it hard to locate a silver lining she bagged 'Love Games' title track. "Music composers Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur liked my voice and gave me an opportunity to sing," stated the former RJ.

In fact, Mahesh Bhatt too loved her voice and she got to know about it from her good friend and lead of 'Love Games' Gaurav Arora.

This Bollywood opportunity has made Shrivastava more confident about her voice.

Now the singer wants to sing more songs. Currently, she is waiting for more music composers to give her chances to sing in their films.
