Birthday special- Alisha enters golden jubilee phase of life

MUMBAI: The year 1995 witnessed the arrival of a new pop singer, Alisha Chinai with her song ‘Made in India’ that set the nation’s collective pulse soaring and helped Alisha to make her individual mark in the music industry.

Before making her mark as an indie music artist, Alisha was introduced to Bollywood music by veteran music director Bappi Lahri in 1985. Together, they gave many disco hits in films like ‘Tarzan’, ‘Dance Dance’, and ‘Commando’.

Although, the elegant singer appeared on the music scene only sporadically, her fans have remained loyal forever.

Alisha gets one of the best singing partners in the form of Kishore Kumar for this hot romantic melody.

Ruk Ruk Ruk Are Baba Ruk, Vijaypath (1994)

No ‘Antakshari’ was ever complete without this tune. The music is vintage Anu Malik and Alisha added stars to the peppy number with her singing.

Made in India (1995)

Alisha received the International Billboard Award around the time ‘Made in India’ came out, and also won the Freddie Mercury Award for Artistic Excellence.

Kajra Re, Bunty Aur Babli (2005)

No second thoughts why Alisha bagged a Filmfare for such an ace hit. Although, the song encountered fame slowly, after the release of the film, it became a mega-hit.

Just as an aside, the singer was paid just Rs 15,000 for her vocals in this song.

It’s Rocking, Kya Love Story Hai (2011)

The film was a huge flop and the song, a bang on hit. Alisha showed a distinct style of her singing through this lively song featuring Kareena Kapoor.
