Only few singers like Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal don't need auto-tune: Rochak Kohli

MUMBAI: Auto-tune is one term that rarely pops out of a music composer’s mouth in the Indian music industry. However, there is one man who does not shy away from talking about auto-tuner or any voice enhancing devices. Well, we are talking about the ‘Atrangi Yaari’ music composer Rochak Kohli.

Unlike most Kohli does not look at auto-tuning as something bad. “20 years ago people tuned musician’s voices manually. But, then we need to evolve with technology. If I can sing a song once and auto-tune it that will save a lot of time,” said ‘Pani Da Rang’ fame composer.

So, what is an auto-tune? Auto-tune is an audio processor that uses a proprietary device to measure and alter pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances.

Kholi is completely in favour of the technology as he further added, “Mixing tool make sound better.”

Furthermore, he said that if one compares Indian music to international they should also accept technology the way they do. “A lot of technology is used internationally,” stated the ‘Yahin Hoon Main’ singer.

Lastly, the singer-composer revealed that everyone in the music industry needs auto-tune to an extent except for a selected few. “Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and a selected few do not need auto-tuners,” ended the composer.
