Too soon to say if Devgn will sing Shivaay title track : Mithoon

Those who remember Ajay Devgn struggling with the 'Chingaari koi bhadke..' tune in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam over 15 years ago, could be excused if they balk at the idea of the actor singing the title track of his upcoming production 'Shivaay'.

The film's music director Mithoon himself is loath to confirm that Devgn may actually lend his voice for the title vocals. "Ajay Devgan singing the title track for Shivaay is not a fully fledged plan. It is still just an idea and we are working on it. It will be too early to speak about it," Mithoon told Radioandmusic.com on Monday.

Actors turning singers for their films is a trend that has been on the upswing in the last few years. Evolving music technology has played a significant part in smoothing out any rough edges that may creep in. After Aamir Khan tried his 'Aati kya Khandala' gambit in 1999, there have been many more. All the three leads of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol tried their hand at vocals with the 'Senorita' track a few years ago. Salman Khan followed with his own act in the 2015 film Hero.

Whether Mithoon will be able to get the otherwise taciturn Devgn to flex his vocal muscles remains to be seen.

The music director is currently receiving praise for his work in the upcoming movie, ‘Sanam Re’. He however has no plans to take on more singing assignments. Says the 31 year old music director-singer, "I am primarily a music director and then a singer. Singing is incidental. Everybody has a calling. Mine is making music."

Mithoon says he is toying with new genres in his upcoming movies Shivaay, Ki and Ka, Loveshuda and Shab.
