Akriti Kakar releases new single 'Amma' for Children's Day

MUMBAI: ‘Saturday Saturday’ singer Akriti Kakar has turned music composer and songwriter this Children’s Day with her latest single- ‘Amma’. The song signifies the impeccable and the most honest bond between a child and mother.

The idea of creating this single came from her friend and Ad film maker- Chirag Arora, the singer revealed. During a casual discussion Arora dropped the idea of showcasing celebrities with their mothers in front of the camera. This was the seed to the creation of ‘Amma’ that features well known personalities from the entertainment industry in the video. “The video has turned into something I simply was not expecting. Every person that I contacted to feature in the video jumped at the idea, and this fills me with gratitude,” said Kakar.

In addition to Kakar, the video also features her two sisters- Sukriti and Prakriti, with their mother, designer- Manali Jagtap with her mother, Shaan with his, Abhijeet Sawant and his mother, Raghav Sachar and his mother, Siddharth Mahadevan with his mother, RJ Archana Pania with her mother, and Anusha Mani with her mother. These artists have been captured sharing their favourite moments with their mothers; Shaan can be seen playing ludo with his mother, while Sachar plays cards with his mother.

Kakar, who does not think of herself as a songwriter, said that she could not stop writing when she started penning down her emotions for mothers. Hence, her lyrics exceeded the ideal time frame -- of three minutes -- for a video. “I was falling short of space to put down all the emotions. But, then we had to stick to three minutes. However, the audio version of the song will have a few more lines,” revealed the ‘Iski Uski’ singer. While the music video for the track is already on YouTube, the audio version will release in a week’s time.

Now that she has created a complete track on her own, Kakar admitted that she likes the entire process. In fact, she is considering making some more independent music in future. “Independent music is gratifying. So, if a great location or another emotion inspires me, I would love to pen down another song,” she added.

Kakkar is currently working on a few untitled Bollywood projects and has also lent her voice to a couple of upcoming Bollywood films ‘Junooniyat’ and ‘Kapoor and Sons’.
