CeeLo Green to be honoured at MoBo for 'Outstanding achievement'

MUMBAI: CeeLo Green, the voice behind several commercial and critically successful songs, is set to receive the 'Outstanding Achievement Prize' at the MoBo awards. The award will be presented to the 41-year-old singer for his contribution to music of black origin, at this year's ceremony, which will be held at the First Direct Arena, Leeds.

Green will also perform at the ceremony, which enters in its 20th year, and will be broadcast live on 4 November. The MoBo Awards, which is held annually in England, celebrates artists and genres that celebrate black music.

Speaking about the gesture, the ‘It’s OK’ singer said, "I am honored by this acknowledgment especially so young in my career. And it is all the incentive anyone would need to continue doing what I love".

Green started his musical journey in the 90s, but shot to fame with Gnarls Barkley, when their single 'Crazy' reached number one in the UK, based on digital download sales alone. Accolades and praises did not end there; the song was later ranked as the greatest song of the decade by Rolling Stone. The rapper later continued to gain success with his solo project, as his song ‘Forget You’ won the Grammy for 'Best Urban/Alternative Performance' in 2011.

In 2012 Green won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Male Artist, while he was also nominated for Teen Choice Awards for 'Fashion Icon' and 'TV Personality' in the same year.
