'The Stage' judges believe in me: Anushka Shahaney

MUMBAI: She is pretty, bubbly, and talkative, but more importantly, Anushka Shahaney is a remarkable singer who is making her presence felt on Colors Infinity’s ‘The Stage’. The last few episodes of the English singing reality show have witnessed Shahaney emerge as a strong contender in the competition, making it very likely that she could take the trophy back home.

The 22-year-old, who is a BA in liberal Arts, was all set to study music at the LA College of Music when ‘The Stage’ came her way, and it led to a change of plans for the singer. Shahaney put everything on the backburner in order to give her 100 per cent to ‘The Stage’; a platform that she believes will help her achieve her dreams of becoming an international artist. However, this is not a dream that she always held close to her heart. Music became a big part of her life while she was in Canada studying psychology. “During my stay there, I developed a love for music. This is also when I learnt that music was my true calling, and then ‘The Stage’ happened,” she stated.

Shahaney, who is a singer and songwriter, was spotted by the SOL Productions team – ‘The Stage’ production house – through her YouTube channel. And Shahaney is indeed glad to have been spotted saying, “Being on this show has been an amazing discovery for me. I have got to learn so much about my voice and the best part is that the judges believe in me. This motivates me to do better.”

Each of the four judges have been rather impressed with Shahaney, with Vishal Dadlani calling her a ‘Star in Making’ and Ehsaan Noorani passing remarks like, “I am waiting for a Swedish label to sign you.” Likewise, the singer is equally fond of all the four judges on ‘The Stage’. “I am extremely fond of them all. Some of their comments like Vishal saying- ‘You are cute as a button’ have stayed with me. Now, every time I meet anyone, they tell me that. It is rather funny,” stated the young singer.

Shahaney, who is inclined towards western music, also has some classical training and plans to learn more of it. “Classical music is the best form of music. It helps you understand singing techniques that protect your voice,” averred the upcoming talent. She is even open to trying her luck in Bollywood playback singing. “I majorly want to write my own music and inspire people. But, if something from Bollywood comes my way, I would not mind taking it,” she added.

The talented singer currently has a backlog of about 20 odd songs, and five or six recorded ones. Explaining the same she said, “Since, I am also a psychology student, I know that the best ideas come through our unconscious mind. Hence, when there is an idea I note it down or record it on my voice notes.”
