Indian musicians pay special tribute to Ganpati Bappa

MUMBAI: You can never tell what will inspire artists or musicians to create the next masterpiece. From nature to love, war to heartache, family to current events, these creative beings do not have to look too far for their muses. And sometimes, it can even be their devotion to God which can bring musicians to write some beautifully melodious tracks.

To celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi this year, some Indian musicians created their own renditions to express their devotion to their lord.

Ghazal and Sufi singer Kavita Seth, who is best known for the track ‘Goonja Sa Koi Iktara’ from the film ‘Wake Up Sid’, created a special rendition of a Ganesh ‘Stotra’ describing the magnificence of the god. The track, titled ‘Gajananam’, is a devotional song with a beautiful rhythm and soulful tune that will leave devotees filled with devotion.

Talking about the single Seth said, “Something that I observed while staying in Mumbai is the celebration of Ganpati Chaturthi. It is always a very special one for residents of this city. Over a period of time it has made a special place in my heart too, which is why I wanted to create a soulful shloka. And it just turned out to be that way. Ideally, creating a music piece takes a good amount of time, but this happened really quickly. Moreover everyone appreciates the track.”

Award winning musician and composer, Shankar Mahadevan, is one music personality who never misses an opportunity to showcase his devotion for Lord Ganesh through his music. Mahadevan, who has sung a number of Ganpati songs in the past, made it a point to create a new one this year too.

The song is titled 'Icchapurti Bappa Morya' and it has been sung in the local language of Maharashtra – Marathi. The lyrics of the same have been written by Kishor Jathar while the music direction has been done by Sahil Vyas.

Sonu Nigam one of the most talented singers in the Indian music industry also stepped in to create ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ with Times Music Spiritual this festive season. The music for this song has been composed by Rajib-Mona-Roy, and lyrics have been written by Ravi Basnet.

Musician Mihir Joshi has created a unique Ganpati single titled ‘Ganapati Stotram’. Joshi stated that the track is not a typical Ganpati song, given the fact that he is a rock musician. “Nobody expected me to sing a Ganpati song, but then I wanted to do something special this festive season. The song is also a tribute to my dad who is a Ganpati devotee.”

The music of ‘Ganapati Stotram’ has been composed by Mihir Joshi and Aditya Bhandakkar, and has been released by Times Music Spiritual.

Bollywood playback singer Aman Trikha has also created a festive special track- ‘Ganpati Bappa’ with Ashwin Joshi. “I wanted to work on a Ganpati song for a long time but then I never got the opportunity to. Thus, when Ashwinji called me up for the same, I started working on it pretty quickly. I was travelling around that time but I got back to the city and completed the song in three or four days and we put it up just in time for the festival.”

Music for ‘Ganpati Bappa’ has been composed by Ritesh Bhoyar and the lyrics have been penned by Aslam Hassan.
