Check the interview below.

What is the song Mehfil about?

Mehfil is a love song that emphasis the right to choose who you want to love. Everyone should be free to love who they want to irrespective of their gender, religion, caste or creed. In a world where there is so much hate, I want to create music which is feel good and positive. Everyone has the right to choose who they want to love and we all must respect that. I had written this song in 2018 when India was fighting for gay rights. The music video and song have a simple message ‘Love who you want to love’.

How was your experience working on the track?

I had a wonderful time working on this track. I worked with some amazing musicians from the Chicago Music scene. I got producer Chris Reynolds on board to co-produce the song with me. He is the producer for the ‘let it go’ famed singer Idina Menzel who lent her voice for Disney’s Frozen. It was a pleasure working with Chris and I also had a great time meeting him while in LA. The song is about love and having a positive attitude and everyone who was part of the track enjoyed working on it. I had the pleasure to work with my friend and frequent collaborator Pulkit Datta, who directed the music video for Mehfil. The music video portrays people from all backgrounds be it South Asian, Asian, Caucasian, African American or Swiss.

What’s unique about this song?

The unique thing about this music video is that the couples are shot in a way that gives the audience the opportunity to make their own inferences and relate the stories of these couples to their own story as they want to.

How are you dealing with the current pandemic COVID-19 lockdown situation?

We are all living in an unprecedented time as COVID-19 continues to evolve and impact not only the regular course of professional lives but also our personal lives. It’s a very strange time for the world because we all are going through something no one imaged would happen. I had my trips planned for L.A. to work with producers on some new music. However, due to the lockdown all that has been delayed. I have been using this time to improve my piano playing skills, reading books, cooking, and binge-watching on a lot of the series that were on my bucket list.

Anything new that you are trying?

In terms of music, I am collaborating with a few LA-based modern pop producers for my next few singles. I am really excited about it. At home, I am reading books and trying out new recipes.

Can you throw some light on your upcoming projects?

I am working on two new Hindi songs and hope to release them in the coming weeks. Both are currently in pre-production. I am also using this time to figure out my debut English EP. Singles from my EP should start releasing by July of this year.
