BBC Urdu: Millions tune in to Pakistan lifeline

MUMBAI: Millions in Pakistan began tuning in to emergency lifeline radio programming yesterday, as BBC Urdu launched a new service to people in the most severely flooded areas of the country  Special programmes will be broadcast each day in Urdu at 12.30, 15.30 and 18.30 and in Pashto at 12.45, 15.45 and 18.45 (local times). Each transmits crucial up-to-date information to the hundreds of thousands of people currently cut off from humanitarian aid.  Highlights from Monday's – 9th August - first day of programmes included:

Anup Jalota croons a patriotic song in English

MUMBAI: Anup Jalota often called "Bhajan Samraat" known for beautifying spiritual music in the form of Bhajans is all set to further explores his music. The singer who is credited with singing more than 500 bhajans and 120 ghazals is coming up with a duet with Preety Bhalla in English, on the occasion of India's 63rd year of Independence. All India Radio to air commentary of the tri-nation cricket series

MUMBAI: All India Radio will broadcast running commentary of the The tri-nation cricket series involving India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand that begins in Sri Lanka on Tuesday  The commentary will be available on Rajdhani channel and FM Gold on 10, 16, 22, 25 and 28 of this month from 1400 hrs. to 2130 hrs. or till the end of the match. Commentary will not be broadcast on DTH FM Gold Channel. During the matches, hourly updates will also be broadcast on FM Rainbow Channel on the same dates from 1445 hrs and onwards.

Big FM Q1 operating loss at Rs 72 mn, revenue up 7.4%

MUMBAI: Reliance Broadcast Network (earlier Reliance Media World), which operates FM radio under the brand Big FM, has witnessed a 7.4 per cent growth in its radio broadcasting business for the fiscal first quarter ended 30 June over the trailing three-month period. With a net income of Rs 448.33 million in the radio sector, RBNL has suffered an operating loss of Rs 71.96 million from the segment. The company said that radio inventory utilisation stood at 64 per cent during the quarter.
