Samsung to launch Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in India

MUMBAI: Mobile-handset manufacturing giant- Samsung, is all set to launch its new flagship models, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in India on 23 March. The new models are made of a combination of metal and glass.

The new Galaxy S6 features a 5.1-inch 2K AMOLED display, and has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The pixel density goes up to 572ppi, which is higher than the 326ppi seen in the iPhone 6. The Galaxy S6 comes with an f/1.9 lens 16MP primary camera showcasing a bigger aperture. Samsung has employed the same f/1.9 lens for the 5MP front-facing camera as well.

For the device, Samsung is using the new Exynos, which comes with 14 nanometre (nm) architecture for efficient performance. It is also planning some Qualcomm Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S6. For now, Samsung’s Exynos 7 Octa-core processor contains two quad-core processors, clocked at 2.1 GHz and 1.5GHz, respectively and is coupled with 3GB RAM. The new Galaxy S6 has employed the LPDDR4 3GB RAM.

The Galaxy S6 supports WPC and PMA wireless charging using Samsung’s own charging pad. On using a traditional microUSB cable, Samsung promises to get 50 percent battery capacity in a half hour. It comes fitted with a 2,550mAh battery. The Galaxy S6’s minimum storage capacity model has been upgraded from 16GB to 32GB.

Both devices, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, are available in three variants – 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The 32GB Galaxy S6 is priced at Rs 49,900, 64GB at Rs 55,900 and 128GB at Rs 61,900, while the Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB, 64GB and 128GB have been priced at Rs 58,900, Rs 64,900 and Rs 70,900, respectively.
