MUMBAI: DJ Snake’s love for India is known to all. The French producer, who showcased India beautifully in his popular song, Lean On alongside Major Laser is back to the land that inspires him a lot. His latest hit Magenta Riddim has been shot in India’s Telangana region and the local artists there have performed in the song. Helmed by Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia, the yet-to-be-released song features Indian music as well as the local artists dancing on the tunes of Snake’s creations.
It is not for the first time that an international singer has chosen Indian soil for their musical ventures. Here is a list of global pop icons, who preferred India as a base for their albums that became a huge hit.
Coldplay – Hymm For The Weekend
Coldplay’s 2016 song, Hymm For The Weekend was shot in India. Besides, becoming a popular number, the song had also created waves in the form of a heated discussion that criticized India’s portrayal of a poor country.
Mumford & Sons – The Cave
Mumford & Sons, which is a Rock band from London shot in Goa in 2010 for their third single, The Cave in 2010. A song, which was shot during the quintet’s India tour, was a part of their debut album, Sigh No More.
Iggy Azalea – Bounce
Australian rapper Iggy Azalea’s first single, Bounce, from her debut album, The New Classic, was shot in Mumbai, India. The rapper donned a red bedazzled sari in the song, thus giving it an Indian touch.
Singer Calvin Harris’ single, Let’s Go was also nominated in the Best Dance Recording category of 55th Grammy Awards. Apart from featuring American singer, Ne-Yo, the song also showcased locals of many countries dancing to its tunes and India was one amongst them.
British singer, M.I.A’s single, Swords, from her 2013 album, Matahdatah Scroll 01, Broader Than A Border was shot in an Indian temple. The singer used Indian dancers and a quintessential art of making music by swirling swords in the song.
Highlight Tribe – Shankara
Highlight Tribe’s song, Shanka portrays beaches of Goa in a trance flavor. The French band is known for their trance music creations.
Shouting out their mantra to free people across the world from exploitation, Kill The Power was shot on the lanes of Maharashtra and inside auto rickshaws. The song is a part of metal band Skindred’s studio album with the same name.
Included in The Beatles final production, Let it Be, the song Across The Universe was shot in India. Though not an official video, the Indian fervor and tradition bears a strong presence in it.
Imogen Heap Feat Vishal/ Shekhar – Minds Without Fear
Featuring Bollywood music director duo, Vishal and Shekhar, Minds Without Fear was crooned by British singer-writer and Grammy Award nominee, Imogen Heap. The song aimed to offer a podium for singers and musicians, across India and is inspired by the Rabindranath Tagore’s poem, Where The Mind Is Without Fear. It was shot on the streets of Rajasthan.
