Ananya Sritam Nanda wins Indian Idol Junior; Salim Merchant skips the finale

MUMBAI: The winner of Sony Entertainment Television’s ‘Indian Idol Junior 2’ is out and it is none other than, the talented 14-year-old Ananya Sritam Nanda from Odisha. She has not only won the trophy but also a contract worth Rs 10 lakhs with Sony.

On her victory an excited Nanda said, “This is the best moment of my life. I am speechless! With the mentoring and the training I have received, I am thankful to ‘Indian Idol Junior’. I think all my co-contestants deserve this trophy. I am really thankful to the viewers of Sony Entertainment Television for showering us with so much love and support. I am going to miss this platform, training, my friends, Sonakshi Ma'am, Vishal and Salim Sir."

Nanda was handed over the trophy by Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, music composer Vishal Dadlani, and the comedian-turned-actor Kapil Sharma, who was present to promote his upcoming movie ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu’. However, the third Idol judge Salim Merchant could not attend the finale as he was busy touring in the United States. However, he took to Twitter to express his disappointment about missing the show.

The surprise element in the finale was actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha. He was in Pune when he decided to surprise the Idol contestants by paying a visit to the set after learning about the finale. Sinha's visit also surprised his daughter and Idol judge Sonakshi.

The Dabangg actress performed to several songs including ‘Saree Ke Fall Sa’, ‘Rani Tu Main Raja’, ‘Pon Pon’, ‘Tamanche Pe Disco’, ‘Sawaar Loon’, ‘Party All Night’, ‘Blame the Night’ and ‘Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta’ while, Dadlani sang a couple of tracks.

The top three contestants, Nahid Afrin, Nityashree Venkataramanan and Nanda (winner) enthralled the audience with some Bollywood hit songs. Sharma who also happens to be a talented singer, sang with the contestants.

The comedian, who wished Sonakshi on the festival of Raksha Bandhan via social media, also received a rakhi from the actress.

The occasion also saw the top 13 contestants on the stage once again.

All in all, it was a gala night which Nanda is sure to cherish for a very long time.
