History Rocks III

Label: Sony Music

Rating: 3/5

Type: Compilation

If you are one of those rock music lovers who like to keep up with all the info about your favourite bands and artistes, you surely have heard of History Rock – the documentary series on popular rock legends that was aired on The History Channel (now known as Fox History and Entertainment Channel)

The new compilation album History Rocks III released in collaboration with Sony Music and Fox History and Entertainment Channel surely brings back some good memories and music of the popular artistes that were featured in the series.

The three CD pack contains 51 tracks by artistes like Deep Purple, Scorpions, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Santana, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Travis, Europe, FireHouse, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Doobie Brothers and many more artistes like Ted Nugent, Lou Reed, The Outfield and The Hoosters.

The songs on this compilation are probably significant works, but at the same time – comparatively lesser known. For instance, the album doesn't feature the epochal Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, instead it has the lesser known Woman from Tokyo. Similarly, we all know Steve Vai's For the Love of God, this album features the handpicked The Blood and Tears' an equally potent creation by the American guitar virtuoso. Perhaps, the idea was to handpick lesser known works of prominent artiste for the album. The compilation is apt for both – those who know about these artistes, and those who would like to explore more of the rock history makers. There's one more reason to give this one a hear – we know it's not by any new artistes!

There's one hitch though – the album doesn't feature ANY tracks from bands like Beatles, Clapton, Led Zeppelin, The Doors or The Who – the historical names of the rock music world – a few tracks from them would have been icing on the cake. Nevertheless, being moderately priced at Rs 399 (for 3 CD's) this collection will only add value to the already existing priceless collection. Not bad at all.
