Dasvidaniya

Music - Kailash, Naresh & Paresh

Lyrics - Kailash Kher

Label - Junglee

Rating - 4/5

Dasvidaniya has just three tracks to count on- Alvida, Mumma and Muskura. However, it's not the quantity but the quality of the music which is more than impressive. The tracks have melody, well written lyrics to complement, and soul stirring vocals of Sonu Niigam and Kailash Kher.

Muskura, sung by Sonu Niigam and Kailash Kher, has a 70's feel to it. For a moment you may even feel as if you have travelled back in time. However, the timeless melody of the song is so transfixing it's almost a 21st century paean to the past. The simple truth that the song expresses through its lyrics (written by Kailash Kher) can be instantly linked to our lives.

The emotions that the next track Maa conceals cannot be put into words. In short, it's not to be read about – simply go and hear it!

Since Dasvidaniya means 'goodbye' in Russian, the film has a theme song called Alvida. (Dasvidaniya, goodbye, Alvida all mean the same). The song talks about the dualities of life. Again, the lyrics are well done – it has a raw and simple sound suggesting a 'doomsday'. The same song also has a remix version which seems more like a filler.

The Muskura instrumental played on the classical guitar is a welcome change, considering the fact that not many albums have instrumentals these days.

We all know Kailash Kher as a great singer but it's not surprising to know that Kher is also a talented composer, one can take his name in the same breath as that of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Jagjit Singh or Ghulam Ali who are also known to compose their own music.

So, what's the best part of this album? Well, the album is best in its totality! It does not have 19 tracks or blatant remixes to boast of, but what it does have is 'music' you can connect to. The Kailash- Naresh- Paresh trio nails it when it comes to minimalistic arrangements, there are no fancy instruments or excessive use of electronic sounds – the songs of Davidaniya are clearly a testimony to this. In sum, it's hard to say goodbye to Dasvidaniya's music once you get hooked!
