Prabhu Deva was very particular about lyrics: Priya Panchal

MUMBAI: From the past two years, talented lyricist/singer Priya Panchal has been concentrating only on writing songs. Panchal, who kept away from intense media coverage, has taken baby steps and shaped many films songs lately with her profound lyrics. Pradhu Deva’s Ramaiya Vastavaiya is one of the recent examples where she has penned six soulful tracks.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Panchal says, “Pradhu Deva sir was very sure what he wanted good lyrics. He specified that the characters are young; it should be poetic but not lyrically heavy.  It took me four months to finish the track.”

Way before she becomes a lyricist, she is a singer. Panchal started singing at the young age of six and has done 2000-3000 concerts. “I wanted to do something different so I ventured into writing. Both singing and writing lyrics are fun and I enjoy it. Singing is close to my heart,” she says.

Married to renowned music composer Jigar, she has taken a break from music. “I love to be surrounded with music but at the same time I like experimenting. After few years, I might learn instruments as I love music in all forms,” Panchal adds.

Currently, she hopes to write more, sing more and do couple of other projects so that she can contribute more in music. Some of her movies include ‘Go Goa Gone’, ‘Tere Naal Love Hogya’, ‘Shor In The City’, ‘Yeh Dooriyan’, ‘Ishkq in Paris’, ‘ABCD - AnyBody Can Dance’ and ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’.

She had also won the title of best lyricist 2012 for the television series ‘Afsar Bitiya’.
