Zakir Hussain enthralls LA fans

MUMBAI: Lending a rare treat for LA concert aficionados, renowned tabla maestro Zakir Hussain unveiled the musical magic along with some of world’s premiere musicians at a special  Jazz musicians concert entitled ‘Celebrating Peace’ on 29 August at Hollywood Bowl in California.

The concert witnessed presence of several renowned musicians like Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Wayne Shorter, Cindy Blackman Santana, Dave Holland and a guest appearance by Carlos Santana. The headliners performed on jazz tracks such as ‘Ode to Joy’, ‘Afro Blue’, Milton Nascimento's ‘Ponta De Areia ‘and ‘Love Theme’ from Spartacus.

Commenting on the concert, Hussain tweeted yesterday, “Just got back after playing at Hollywood bowl with Herbie, Wayne, Santana, Dave Holland and Cindy Blackman, it was an amazing night of music.”

The concert also featured opening set by well-known harmonicist Gregoire Maret Quartet. Organized by the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Creative Chair, the Jazz concert was a part of Hollywood Bowl’s Summer Concert Series.
