MUMBAI: Opening doors for songwriters, publishers and artistes to share their work globally, online video streaming service YouTube has inked licensing deals with various music publishers.

The site has tied up with publishers like BMG Rights Management, Christian Copyright Solutions, ABKCO Music, Inc., Songs Music Publishing, Words & Music, Copyright Administration, Music Services, Reservoir Media Management, and Songs of Virtual. The deal also includes companies representing artistes like Adele, Cee Lo Green, Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones and Sam Cooke.

The Google owned site claims to provide thorough compensation to producers and artistes for the use of their music on the video-sharing site, with an increased copyright protection. As per the deal, YouTube's Content ID system - an audio and video matching tool will avail an option to its content owners to leave the copyrighted material online, and place money-making ads alongside it.

YouTube Music's strategic partner development head Elizabeth Moody wrote on the blog, “The deal will result in more of the great music you all love on YouTube, and more opportunities for artists to make money."

With help of contracts signed with the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) and Harry Fox Agency, the site will also allow the company to monetize user-generated YouTube videos featuring music.

“When publishers allow YouTube to run ads with videos that incorporate their compositions, the publishers, songwriters, record labels, and other artists all make money, so they can reinvest in their careers and keep making great music, and the music industry can thrive,” Moody wrote.
