MUMBAI: Sony Music has joined hands with Universal Music and You Tube to provide its music videos and other premium content at Vevo, a new music video and entertainment service powered by YouTube. Sony Music is the second music label to join hands with You Tube after Universal Music partnered in April this year

The music player will be hosted on YouTube and can be embedded on other web sites. Record labels are seeking to boost online revenue to make up for declining compact-disc sales. The labels will share the advertising sales and the website will also enable the users to purchase tracks and merchandise online. The deal is a further boost to Google`s efforts to monetize You Tube, which was acquired for $1.65 billion in2006.

Some of the acts represented by the two labels include Amy Winehouse, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Duffy, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Eminem, AC/DC, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Akon, The Killers, Mary J Blige, Black Eyed Peas, and Justin Timberlake.
