Rihanna, One Direction win big at MTV Video Music 2012 awards

MUMBAI: R&B superstar Rihanna and all singing teen-pop sensation One Direction were the big winners at the 29th MTV Video Music 2012, which was held on 6 September 2012 in Los Angeles.

The awards featured a mixed of new and renowned artistes while Rihanna took home the night's most coveted honor - Video of the Year for her single ‘We Found Love,’ featuring Calvin Harris, One Direction swept three awards - Best New Artiste, Best pop video and Most share-worthy video’  for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’.

Chris Brown received the honour of Best Male Video and Best Choreography for ‘Turn up the Music’ whereas M.I.A bagged Best Direction and Best cinematography titles for ‘Bad Girls’. Other artiste such as Demi Lovato (Skyscraper), Calvin Harris (Feel So Close), Drake (HYFR featuring Lil Wayne), Nicki Minaj (Starships), Coldplay (Paradise), Katy Perry (Wide Awake) and Skrillex, (First of the Year - Equinox) received one award each.

VMA witnessed performances by renowned music personalities like Pink, Ocean, One Direction, Green Day, Alicia Keys and Taylor Swift.  Hosted by Kevin Hart, the award ceremony kept up its tradition of premiering clips from upcoming movies with Robert Pattinson who introduced the teaser of much awaited Twilight Saga ‘Breaking Dawn - Part 2’.

In India, Vh1 will premiere the awards on Friday 7 September at 5.30 am with a prime time repeat at 8 pm
