Red FM case: SC stays arrests of RJ till 19 Nov

MUMBAI: The Supreme Court has restrained the West Bengal Police from arresting Red FM radio jockey Janardhan Nitin Brady till 19 November. A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan asked the police not to execute an arrest warrant issued by a Darjeeling Court against him till the next hearing. Nitin had appealed in Supreme Court against an order of the Calcutta High Court rejecting his anticipatory bail plea, reported PTI.

The order came as senior advocate U U Lalit and Ajoy Roy mentioned the matter before the court seeking an urgent hearing of the appeal, contending that he was entitled to anticipatory bail.

The jockey has been accused of inciting violence under section 153A of IPC. During the show Ulta Pulta Nitin in Red FM Delhi he had made a communal remark which incited violence in parts of West Bengal in September.

As reported earlier by Radioandmusic.com, on 13 November Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal (Tdsat) allowed information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry time till 3 January 2008 to reply to a petition challenging a one-week ban imposed by it on Red FM.
