Rave iband revolutionizes digital music, creates tunes with iphone and ipad

MUMBAI: Tired of travelling with heavy equipments and untimed technical errors, Bangalore-based Rave iband has innovated a unique way to play live music with the help of digital media. The tech-savvy band has taken the aid of smartphones, tablets and app world to create foot tapping numbers. 

The five-member band is well known for recreating its own musical versions of bollywood hits in contrasting genres, apart from remixing.  Rave iBand’s version of the chartbuster ‘Sheila ki Jawani’ was an instant hit on YouTube and other websites.  The band has also recreated digital versions of ‘Chammak Challo,’ ‘Summer of 69’ and popular tracks of Lady Gaga, which are extensively played during live shows. The bands genre of music ranges from bollywood songs to retro rock including contemporary pop. 

The band uses applications like Megaphone, Shaker, Garage Band, Bebo, Solo, Ocariana, DJ Pro and Drummer to create music their way.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com band’s vocalist Riccha Paul said, “The origination of the unique way of creating music came out of blue. Our music director Kej was waiting for the musician to start recording and in the meanwhile he was fiddling around with a couple of music apps on a friend’s iPAD. In less than half an hour he created a song which sounded completely professional and it was quiet entertaining to go through the whole creation process.”

Commenting on the band’s technological gimmick, Paul stated that the ourpriority has always been music. "All the gadgetry and gimmicks are secondary. All of us are serious, full-time musicians who are experimenting with new and innovative medium in making music. We want to be known for our music," she added.

Founded in 2011 by music director Ricky Kej, the newly established band comprises of vocalist Riccha Paul who is a renowned Jazz/Blues/Retro singer from south India and has released albums with Virgin Records and Universal Music of the US, classical and jazz pianist Charanraj who has received training in London and percussionist Veigas an award-winning composer and music producer from Mangalore.
