Rahman walks away with Golden Globe for Slumdog

MUMBAI: Composer A R Rahman has won the prestigious Golden Globe award for Best Original Score for Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, at the glittering function held in Los Angeles early today.

The film also won the award for Best Screenplay at the 66th Golden Globe Awards ceremony. The film, which is the story of a Mumbai underdog's rags-to-riches run, had earned four nominations, including for Best Picture-Drama, Best Director for Boyle and Best Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy.

â€?Slumdog…' is based on a novel by Indian diplomat Vikash Swarup and stars actors Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan in the lead among others  A song from the film, "Aaja aaja shamiane ke taley", has now entered the Best Song category at the Academy Awards. It also fetched the Los Angeles Critics Choice Award for best score and has been nominated for the New York Critics Choice Award.

This time, the 66th celebration of motion-art, The Golden Globes, had a special connection to India. UTV World Movie Channel has got the exclusive live satellite rights for India for the next three years.

Rahman pocketed the Critics Choice Award for Slumdog Millionaire just last week,  before which he earned laurels in the form of the LA Film Critics Association award in December.

Rahman appears to be well and truly putting India on the global music map.
