MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi Abu Dhabi bagged the 'Best Radio Station' award at the fifth edition of the Masala Awards, held recently at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.

The Hindi and English broadcast station, which is owned by The National's parent company, Abu Dhabi Media, was voted by its listeners as the ‘Best Radio Station’ in the Popular Choice category just months after it hit the UAE airwaves in February.

Abu Dhabi Radio Network executive director Abdul Rahman Awadh Al Harthi said, "To receive this kind of recognition just months after launch is a marvellous achievement for Radio Mirchi. The station is a valuable addition to the Abu Dhabi Radio Network stable of brands, complementing our suite of English and Arabic stations. The fact that Radio Mirchi was voted by the South Asian community to receive this prestigious award confirms and reinforces the strength of the Abu Dhabi Media and Entertainment Network (India) Limited partnership, a winning mix which we believe will achieve many milestones going forward."

The station is known to lend a 'desi' touch to the line-up of shows, comprising of a mix of international and community news, latest music in bollywood, Hindi and English languages.

Abu Dhabi Media partnered with Entertainment Network (India) Limited, a subsidiary of The Times of India Group, to launch Radio Mirchi in the UAE in February this year. The business partnership represents Abu Dhabi Media’s first extension into the south Asian broadcasting sector and the first ever international association for Entertainment Network (India) Ltd. and the Radio Mirchi brand.
