MUMBAI: Netherlands based jazz quartet 'The Ploctones' launched their latest album '050' in India on Blue Frog Records. The band played a 90 minute set for Mumbai's jazz aficionados at the Blue Frog on Friday night.

Anton Goudsmit (guitar) formed the Ploctones to perform a series of his compositions commissioned by Dutch NPS Radio in 2001. In 2004, former VPRO (a culturally radical media forum) radio presenter Ren?© de Rooij organised a live CD recording at the Jazz op het Dak festival, an event directed by him and featured on VPRO television.

The city must have hardly witnessed a Jazz act of this stature before. Consisting of founder member Anton Goudsmit (guitars), Martijn Vink (drums), Efra??m Trujillo (sax) and Jeroen Vierdag (bass) 'The Ploctones' take the listeners on a musical ride in seconds – compelling the listener to get drawn in their musical flights.

The audience included many musicians from the Indian rock scenario watching the awe-inspiring act. Drummer Martijn Vink was matchless with his remarkable and upbeat grooves, Efra??m Trujillo would suddenly appear out of nowhere with his passionate saxophone solos, bassist Jeroen Vierdag added a lot more color with the groovy bass lines, while guitarist Anton Goudsmit's unique guitar tone and playing style makes him one of the most inimitable guitar players around – throughout the gig Goudsmit was making music on a completely different plane leaving the listeners in awe.

Quite often, the band would surprise each other with a new melody and then the fellow musician would uplift the same with his own interpretation – clearly a sign of the band's solidarity and seamless creativity – this is one band which knows how to have 'fun'. Simply put, their music is the kind which will sweep you off your feet, and you'll never mind the zillion falls!
The band would be performing on Saturday at The Blue Frog at 10.30 pm.
