Nokia unveils Car Mode app for smartphones

MUMBAI: Nokia has launched a standalone application �Nokia Car Mode' optimized for the in-car use of its smartphones.

The app will feature an optimized user interface simplifying the access and use of Nokia Drive (voice-guided car navigation with Nokia Maps), traffic updates, music and voice calls while driving. 'Car Mode' built with Qt will be available for download from Ovi Store in Q4 2011 for Symbian Belle smartphones including Nokia 600, 700, 701, N9 and many more.

Nokia Car Mode supports MirrorLink, a standard smartphone-to-car connectivity platform which include in-car displays, controls systems, and audio systems.

Mirrorlink has also introduced a car mode compact application �ICS-X8 App Link Station' which allows Nokia smartphone users to access ICS-X8 and utilize smartphone services like Nokia Drive, Nokia Music amongst other.

Alpine Electronics Europe manager of sales and marketing Ingmar Heck said, "The ICS-X8 featuring MirrorLink allows users to create a digital ecosystem of mobile applications and the vehicle's infotainment system."

Nokia's location and commerce business director automotive services Floris van de Klashorst said, MirrorLink and Nokia Car Mode are a big leap forward in allowing car drivers to access their favourite smartphone services. MirrorLink users have comfortable and safe access to maps, music and telephony on their phones when they're in their cars even while driving....
