Nokia appoints P Balaji as MD amp VP India

MUMBAI: Nokia has appointed P Balaji as the managing director and vice-president for its India operations.

In his new role, Balaji will expand Nokia’s mobile phones and smart devices business in the country and provide strategic direction and operational focus to the company. He will also be responsible to build and consolidate the company’s presence in the Indian market and also drive partnerships and strategic alliances for the organisation in India.

Commenting on the appointment, Nokia IMEA senior vice-president D Shivakumar said, “Balaji is respected in the IT and telecom industry. His experience and leadership make him a strong addition to the India leadership team. I am confident that Balaji will provide the required direction and leadership in delivering significant value to our consumers and partners across India.”

Prior to this appointment, Balaji was managing director at Sony Mobile Communications India where he was responsible for establishing strong distribution partnerships and driving sales for the company.

With over 22 years of experience, he has also worked at Tata Group, AT&T, Ericsson India and Lucent.
