Marathi musician Amitraj composes for a film on women empowerment

MUMBAI: In light of the recent Emma Watson speech on women empowerment for HeForShe, many media personalities have professed their support for gender equality and the empowerment of women. Following suit is the Marathi film industry with the new film 'Candle March', for which music composer Amitraj has composed three original songs as well as the background score. The songs were written by well-known lyricist Mandar Cholkar.

The first track is called 'Seher Seher' and features vocals by Rohit Rao and Anandi Joshi. Given the serious tone of the film, Amitraj told Radioandmusic.com, “The romantic song present a pleasant relief point in the film.” Amitraj says that he is composed this track differently in comparison to his previous work. He stated that the song sounds rather westernised with live acoustic solo guitar.

The second and third tracks correspond to the brutal theme of the film. The former is called 'Bechi Rakh' and features solo violin and vocals by Adarsh Dhinde, who is well known for his song 'Deva Tujhya Gabharyala' from the film 'Duniyadaari'. The third song, 'Hey Nikhare' features the voice of multiple award winning musicians Shankar Mahadevan. 'Hey Nikhare' starts western, but turns into a Marathi 'gondhal' in the middle and then goes back to its western sound.

Amitraj explained the only difference between the tracks is the situation in the film when they are played. 'Bechi Rakh' can be heard when the women are been assaulted and are lost. While 'Hey Nikhare' is heard when the women rise and take a stand against abuse.

'Candle March', based on true story, revolves around four female protagonists who are sexually harassed. There are chain of events which connects all four protagonists to fight against the system and injustice. The story is majorly inspired from the known incidences of sex scandals in India.

In addition to 'Candle March', Amitraj's music will next be heard in 'Mitwaa' and 'Pyaar Wali Love Story'.
