Madonna's MDNA certifies Gold within 7 days in India

MUMBAI: Within the first week of its release, Queen of pop Madonna’s latest album ‘MDNA’ is certified with the Gold status in India.  The album released on 26 March 2012 worldwide has become singer’s fifth number one studio album in a row.

MDNA has debuted at number one position on the national Planet M retail charts and has also ranked as one of the fastest selling international albums of 2012 in India.

Universal Music India & SAARC MD Devraj Sanyal said, “It’s tough to speak about a diva like Madonna. She is the epitome of everything music stands for and has been for the last two decades. `MDNA’ is a record that will excite the oldest Madonna fans as it will excite the youth with her eclectic mix of electronica & new world pop. The fact that she can still achieve GOLD status on launch itself proves that she is and will continue to be the real pop diva of our times.”

According to Neilsen Soundscan, Madonna has returned to the top of the Billboard’s Pop Charts for the eighth time with the sale of 359,000 albums further becoming the biggest selling first week debut this year.

In UK, the latest soundtrack is the 12th number one album by Madonna. With this ranking, the Material Girl has surpassed solo artiste Elvis Presley and is only behind ‘The Beatles’, who have had 15 number one UK albums. In Japan, the pop queen has outshined ‘The Beatles’ by recording 22nd Top Ten album.

‘MDNA’ spawning hits like ‘Girl gone wild’ and ‘Give me all your lovin’ featuring M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj has also debuted in the top ten Billboard Dance Club Play Charts. The first single ‘Give me all your lovin’ debuted at number one whereas ‘Girl gone wild’ has grabbed number fourth position on the chart.

The singles have also debuted at number one spot on iTunes charts in 40 countries and also witnessed the biggest one day pre sale on iTunes by any artiste in history.  The hit single ‘Girl Gone Wild’ has grown to be her most viewed video on YouTube with 32 million views.
