MUMBAI: Showcasing the golden era of Indian cinema, Javed Akhtar will host the second season of Zee Classic’s popular series ‘Classic Legends’. The series features biographies of 12 legends including music stalwarts, and will premiere on 18 November at 7:30pm.

The 13 week property will feature artistes like Mohd Rafi, lyricist Murman, actors Meena Kumari, Dev Anand, Nutan, Rajesh Khanna, filmmakers Nasir Hussain and Hrishikesh Mukherji. The weekly show will also pay a tribute to the living legends Dilip Kumar and Pran. Each episode will regale viewers with novel insights and exciting anecdotes about each of these stalwarts.

Speaking of his role as the host of the show, Javed Akhtar said, “I was overwhelmed by the kind of response ‘Classic Legends’ drew last December. The show goes one step further and gets the audience up close and personal with the great men and women who have sculpted the personality of Indian cinema over the years. I believe familiarizing oneself with the lives and careers of film prodigies holds immense learning for any true lover of cinema. So it is a pleasure to associate yet again with such a well-meaning concept.”

Zee Cinema PAC business head Mohan Gopinath said, “All through the first season, we were inundated with innumerable requests and recommendations from all over to pay homage to many more stalwarts. Naturally, we felt the need to bring back a second season of the show and feature some of the luminaries requested by our viewers. We are very happy to have Javed Akhtar hosting the new season as the show would be incomplete without him.”

The first season of ‘Classic Legends’ had featured veterans like Raj Kapoor, R D Burman, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Kishore Kumar, Nargis, Bimal Roy, Vijay Anand, Ashok Kumar, Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Mehboob Khan, Madhubala, Guru Dutt and Shammi Kapoor.
