MUMBAI: Indo-jazz group from Canada ‘The Monsoon Duo’ is all set to perform a live concert on 8 June in Kolkata. The band will present an eclectic blend of contemporary jazz along with Indian classical music.

The concert tiled ‘Coltrane to Ragas’ will feature performances by the band comprising of Jonathan Kay (tenor, soprano saxophones) and Andrew Kay (alto saxophone, percussion). The musical evening will also witness Indian classical musicians like Subhojyoti Guha (tabla), Pt Gopal Burman (shri khol), Ratul Shankar (percussion) and Shayna Young (spoken word, tanpura) performing with the duo.

The group has been highly inspired by legendary jazz musician John Coltrane who was deeply influenced by Indian music and its soul. The concert traces the musical journey of the duo in search of their roots in ragas through a fusion of their music.
