MUMBAI: India figures on a just released US priority watch list of countries that need to do a better job protecting copyrights. Canada too figures in this list, for the first time.

The US says there are increasing concerns about Canada's need for copyright reforms, and better policing of its borders to seize pirated goods. Algeria, Argentina, Chile, Indonesia, Israel, Pakistan, Thailand and Venezuela are the other countries that figure on the list.

The executive vice president of the Recording Industry Association of America says Canadian copyright laws are "seriously outmoded." Music, movies, and computer software are common targets for copyright theft, says an AP report.
