HECL awards network innovation honour to Big FM

MUMBAI: Big 92.7 FM has bagged the customer award for `Network Innovation` from the Hughes Escort Communications Ltd (HECL) for its innovative use of the VSAT network. The radio station was awarded the honour at the HECL`s Users Forum on 17 August 2007 - a forum where HECL recognises its customers for their outstanding contributions to the industry.

Big FM was awarded by its VSAT service provider HECL for its innovation in using the VSAT satellite link to transmit the audio from its studios to the transmitters using the IP packet technology. Big FM network is one of the prime networks executed this year and besides being the largest network in the industry, Big FM is the only FM Station to deploy IP based encoders for the first time, the station claims. The customer award for `Innovation Network` has been presented to Big FM for its ability to `recognize the vision and hard-work of our customers` and for its effort in making `new and innovative use` of the VSAT network.

Says Big FM`s chief technical officer Soumen Ghosh Choudhury, "We are extremely proud and are very glad that our efforts have been appreciated at the HECL forum, which is one of the most coveted forums in the industry. This is an important recognition of the innovation happening in the industry and we are thankful to HECL for helping us make this important technology a reality over a satellite link."
