Green Day to belt out new singles at MTV Awards

MUMBAI: Multi-platinum punk rock band Green Day will belt out songs from their new trilogy album 'Uno!', 'Dos!', 'Tres!' at the upcoming 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on 6 September at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre. The event will be the band’s first televised performance of their new material and the fifth time they hit the stage of MTV awards.

The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool. Commenting on their performance, Armstrong said, "We're excited to perform on this year's 'MTV Video Music Awards'. MTV has continuously supported us during our career, and we can't think of a better place to play our first TV performance for Green Day ?Uno!, Green Day ?Dos!, Green Day ?Tre!"

The three albums - Green Day ?Uno!, Green Day ?Dos!, Green Day ?Tre! (Reprise Records) - will be released on 25 September, 13 November and 13 January 2013 respectively. The albums are the follow-up to their Grammy Award-winning 21st Century Breakdown, and have been produced by long-time producer, Rob Cavallo.

Apart from the Grammy Award-winning group, artists like Alicia Keys, British boy band One Direction, who are first-time VMA performers and nominees, and P!nk will also present their gigs at the event. Keys and P!nk both have also decided to debut songs from their respective upcoming albums at the event.

R&B singer Rihanna and rapper Drake have bagged five nominations each at the MTV Video Music Awards, while other nominees include Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Usher, Beyonce, Frank Ocean and One Direction amongst others.

Last year’s big winner Katy Perry followed up with four nods for Video of the Year (Wide Awake), Best Female Video (Part of Me), Best Art Direction (Wide Awake) and Best Visual Effects (Wide Awake).
