Dinanath Mangeshkar memorial awards announced

Mumbai: Renowned Sarangi player Ustad Sultan Khan, actor Shammi Kapur and Hema Malini among others will be felicitated at 17th Dinanath Mangeshkar Smriti awards to be held at Pune on 24 April.

The awards, consisting cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a statuette, will be given by Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, who is a well known composer and Dinanath`s son, says the release.

Along with that, a newly-instituted award for poetry, consisting of Rs 25,000, which is sponsored by late Marathi poetess and lyricist Shanta Shelke, will be given from this year and Sudhir Moghe would be its first recipient, Mangeshkar said.

The other awardees include producer Mohan Wagh for his Marathi play `Sonpankhi`, an Alandi-based NGO `Aple Ghar` which works for child welfare, Marathi writer Sarojini Vaidya, and veteran actor Bhalchandra Pendharkar.

The award function will be held on 24 April in memory of renowned vocalist and Marathi actor Dinanath Mangeshkar, father of Lata Mangeshkar.
