David proves expensive for Bejoy Nambiar; lands in second controversy

MUMBAI: Bejoy Nambiar is fighting really tough for his upcoming movie ‘David’ slated to release tomorrow (1 February). After ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’, Lucky Ali’s song ‘Ya Hussain’ that accompanied a sequence in the film, which showed a Muharram procession has created noise.

The Muslim community has raised objections that the song does not befit their definition of propriety. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com Nambiar said, “I have removed the song from the movie and right now I am busy with the release. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that it would be better if I didn`t hurt anyone`s sentiments. So I`ve decided to remove the song.”

Nambiar invited the members of the community to view the song sequence, following which the director took the decision to remove the song.

A member from the Shia Muslim Community submitted a petition to the Censor Board. The Petitioner held that the words of the song are eulogy recited by Muslims, mourning the martyrdom of the grandsons of Prophet Muhammad at Karbala, which is sung during Muharram.

As reported by Radioandmusic.com earlier, a while back the Sindhi Community had objected on the usage of the song ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’ and requested the makers, Reliance Entertainment and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take the song off air, as it sends out a wrong message, given the way it is portrayed in the promo. But the director decided to maintain his decision and the song is featured in the film.

The song is rendered by Ali, composed by Prashant Pillai and penned by Turaz. 15 music composers, around 11 lyricists and around 18 singers have worked in the movie. The film features Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vikram and Vinay Virmani.
