Cheryl Cole#039s new single debuts at number one on UK charts

MUMBAI:  Singer Cheryl Cole has topped the UK charts with her single ‘Call My Name’.

According to the Official Charts Company, the dance number written and produced by Scottish DJ Calvin Harris sold 1, 52,000 copies in its first week, making it the fastest selling single of 2012. ‘Call My Name’, the lead single released from Cole’s latest album ‘A Million Lights’ was the only new entry in the top 20.

The 28-year-old has now notched up three number one singles in her solo career including ‘Fight for This Love’,  from her debut solo album in 2009, and ‘Promise This’ from her second album in 2010. In one week, the song has surpassed record sales of Gary Barlow’s Diamond Jubilee track ‘Sing’, which held on to the number one spot for three consecutive weeks. 

Singer Amy MacDonald’s recent release ‘Life in a Beautiful Light’ was ranked at the number two position, whereas Usher’s new album ‘Looking 4 Myself’ grabbed number three spot. Alternative rock band Coldplay’s album ‘Mylo Xyloto’ was placed at number four and Paloma Faith’s ‘Fall to Grace’ stood at fifth position on the chart.
