Brett Lee to produce theme song for `11 World Cup

MUMBAI:Australian pacer Brett Lee is set to produce and perform the theme song for the 2011 cricket World Cup in the sub-continent.The tearaway bowler, who turned 31 on 8 November 2007, said he was looking forward to wooing billions of people in the region with his song for the mega event, to be hosted jointly by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, says a PTI report.

The bass guitarist, who plays for a band Six and Out with his brother Shane, last year took time off his cricket schedule to record a duet with Indian singing legend Asha Bhonsle -- `You`re the one for me` -- which was among the Indian chartbusters.

"Music`s a great passion of mine, apart from cricket, and to be able to produce a song for such a big occasion - particularly given it`s in the subcontinent, a place that I love - only adds to the excitement," Lee was quoted as saying by the `Sydney Morning Herald`.

"The people in that part of the world have such a passion for cricket and music. I`m sure the World Cup on the subcontinent is going to be a great event," he added. The song will also make the affable Aussie one of the highest-selling musicians from Down Under along with pop star Kylie Minogue.

Immensely popular in India, Lee also has ambitions in Bollywood and wants to make his debut alongside mega star Amitabh Bachchan.

The finals of the 2011 World Cup will be held in Mumbai, while the semifinals would be staged in Lahore and Colombo.

Bangladesh will get to host the opening ceremony and the first match of the tournament.
