Barfi and Cocktail lead music nominations at 8th Apsara Awards

MUMBAI: Delivering chart topping albums and making waves at every award function, Barfi and Cocktail have once again lead music nominations with four nods each, at the eighth Film and Television Producers Guild of India (Apsara) Awards announced today.

Barfi has bagged nods for ‘Best Lyrics’ - Sayeed Quadri (Phir Le Aya Dil), ‘Best Music’ – Pritam, ‘Best Male Singer’ – Mohit Chauhan (Ala Barfi) and Nikhil Paul George (Main Kya Karoon).

Also bagging four nods for a tie was Cocktail which has received nominations for ‘Best Lyrics’ - Irshad Kamil (Tum Hi Ho Bandhu), ‘Best Music’ – Pritam, ‘Best Male Singer’ - Neeraj Sridhar (Tumhi Ho Bandhu) and ‘Best Female Singer’ - Kavita Seth (Tumhi Ho Bandhu).

Following up with three nods is Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Gangs of Wasseypur; the former has bagged nominations for ‘Best Lyrics’ – Gulzar (Saans), ‘Best Music’ – AR Rahman and ‘Best Female Singer’ – Shreya Ghoshal (Saans).

On the other hand, Gangs of Wasseypur is nominated for ‘Best Lyrics’ - Varun Grover (Womaniya), ‘Best Music’ - Sneha Khanwalkar and ‘Best Female Singer’ - Rekha Jha & Khushboo Raaj (Womaniya).

Instituted to acknowledge the achievements in cinema and television, the fraternity comes together each year to celebrate and announce the most accomplished members, meriting them for their work in the previous year. The awards honour excellence in the creative as well as technical categories.

Film & Television Producers Guild of India president Mukesh Bhatt said, “2012 has been an exciting year for the Indian film and television industry. We have witnessed a number of ground breaking performances as well as film concepts that have never been seen and are paying off well at the box-office. Through the 8th Renault Star Guild Awards, we will continue to inspire and empower achievers from both fraternities.”

In addition to the existing categories, the ceremony will also commemorate the Yash Chopra Award this year. The award has been introduced in memory of the late director, and will honour talent for the Best Debutant Director every year for Hindi film fraternity.

The Guild consists of over 160 members, who constitute some of the most powerful and influential luminaries in its sector, and who also select the winners of the awards.

In its 8th edition we will honour the memory of Yash Chopra with an award for the Best Debutante Director, which would be an inspiration for every young director to aspire to. The awards will be held on 16 February in Mumbai.
