Asha Bhosle gifts her old hand-written personal collection to Tendulkar

MUMBAI:  The audio launch of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle’s debut movie ‘Mai’ held on 22 january in Mumbai, became a impressive event with the presence of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

The music of the film was unveiled by the master blaster, who praised Bhosle, “Everyone knows about the kind of impact that Asha ji has had on the Indian music. I have grown up listening to her music. In fact, my favourite is 'In Aankho Ki Masti ke' (Umrao Jaan), which she recently sang for me and my wife."

The surprise element of the evening was the hand-written lyrics of 1981 Umrao Jaan, Ashaji’s personal collection along with the childhood pictures of Tendulkar, gifted to the latter who was taken aback by the gesture.

When asked about Bhosle’s inspiration in music, she said, “My inspiration is anyone who is well-know and has humanity inculcated in them. Humanity is the most important thing.”

Ashaji’s granddaughter Zanai Bhosle who is making her debut with the film sang few verses of the song ‘Dhakku Makum’. The music album is under T-Series and consists of five songs and two remixes composed by Nitin R Shankar. ‘Chandaa Ki Bindiyaa’ and ‘Mai’ (Title song) are sung by Asha Bhosle while other singers include Amit Kumar, Sukhwinder Singh, Arjun Kanungo and Payal Dev.

After six decades of musical career, Bhosle has stepped into acting at the age of 79, with ‘Mai’. The movie, directed by debutant Mahesh Kodiyal also stars Padmani Kolhapuri and Ram Kapoor. It is to hit the silver screen on 1 February.
