MUMBAI: Manna Dey’s qawwali song ‘Yaari hai imaan mera’ from the 1973’s super-hit Zanjeer will not be heard in Apoorva Lakhia’s remake.

HMV (now known as Saregama) quoted too high prices, so producer-director Lakhia dropped the idea of including the song. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Lakhia said, “HMV has the rights of the song and they have quoted 30-60 lakhs. As it is a very high price, we will not include the song and T-Series has decided on a new qawwali song.”

Saregama India business head-music Adarsh Gupta said, “ We had put forth some terms (which I cannot disclose) but they didn’t accept it. I think such things are part of business as sometimes deals work and sometimes doesn’t. If they come back we are still ready for talks.”

T-series has the music rights for the remake of Zanjeer. The film will be composed by three-four music directors including Meet Brothers and Devi Sri Prasad. Kalyanji-Anandji had composed for the original film that consisted of five tracks in voices of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Mohd Rafi, Manna Dey.

The film stars Priyanka Chopra, Ram Charan and Sanjay Dutt and is set to hit theatres on 10 May. It is shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu.
