AIR becomes English tutor for Jharkhand school kids

MUMBAI: Jharkhand will introduce an interactive radio programme — Aao Angrezi Sikhein — for primary schoolchildren from 2 October.

The programme, initiated by Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) in association with the All India Radio, Ranchi has 150 lessons in English designed under the project.

Initially, it will cover Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa and Daltonganj, and based on the success, the JPEC plans to cover all the districts of the state.

The programme will be divided into two phases. The first phase will be for students of Class I while the second will cover those studying in Classes III and IV.

The 30-minute program me will be be aired on radio at 12.10pm every day, beginning 2 October.

According to JEPC officials, Radio sets will be made available in each classroom and teachers will monitor the proceedings of the session....

The students will also be offered tips on basic etiquette and manners during the programme. They will be given five minutes to memorise the lesson. The entire lesson will be noted down by the teachers and will be revised later,... said the JPEC official.

The main object to start this programme is to bring students back to the classrooms through a different learning technique and improve their English language skills.
