Music Today launches The World Music Express

MUMBAI: Music Today has launched its latest album – The World Music Express. The album is a presentation of renowned artistes of World Music who have contemporised traditional instruments like the santoor, sarangi, sarod, drums and flute by giving them a universal appeal. This album is a blend of tracks by world music icons Taufiq Qureshi, Rahul Sharma, Bickram Ghosh, Amaan Ali Khan, Ayaan Ali Khan, Rakesh Chaurasia, Amit Heri, Kamal Sabri and is a rare collection for the music lovers.

About the Artistes

Taufiq Qureshi – An ace percussionist of India, Taufiq's performances showcase the intricacies of Indian rhythm, interwoven with his phenomenal command and sparkle of contemporary world percussions. Being the son and disciple of the legendary Ustad Allarakha and brother of the tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, Taufiq's style incorporates body and vocal percussions to create unique rhythmic motifs spanning across cultures. His sense of tone and his command over a wide variety of percussion instruments and styles is truly commendable.

Rahul Sharma – He is a versatile musician who chose santoor to express his creativity and stepped into the world of music with virtuosity par excellence. He is constantly innovating, experimenting with music and winning accolades from across the world.

Bickram Ghosh - Bickram has carved out a niche for himself as a classical musician, world famous percussionist and composer. He is highly ranked amongst the most celebrated tabla players of our country.

Amaan Ali Khan & Ayaan Ali Khan – Coming from a traditional background and yet, experimenting with New age music world, Amaan Ali Khan & Ayaan Ali Khan stand as a strong bridge between tradition and modernity in Indian classical music.

Rakesh Chaurasia - An exceptional flutist, with fine technique and artistic power, Rakesh Chaurasia is truly capable to carry the Chaurasia legacy into the next millennium. Rakesh Chaurasia possesses the right balance of strength and serenity, which proves him an exceptional flutist.

Amit Heri – Guitarist and Composer, Amit Heri is one of the fortunate few Indian musicians who have performed at prestigious international music festivals. Amit Heri's objective is to share a personal journey through music that highlights the commonality between various cultures and people. He has scored music for feature films (including Morning Raga), dance and theatre productions, television and radio.

Kamal Sabri – The multifaceted musician and composer, Kamal Sabri is the son of the sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan, who explores the vast realm of World music yet retains the purity of Indian Classical music through his sarangi.
