MUMBAI: To help, save and preserve the Kashmiri cultural heritage and to raise funds for completing Kashmiri Pandit Association project Sharda Sadan cultural center in Navi Mumbai, Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas will perform at Moments Ghazal Concert at Rangsharda Auditorum, Bandra Reclamation in Bandra West, Mumbai on Saturday, 2 March 2013 at 7 pm.

Forgotten, forsaken and forbidden to call the land of ancestors their home, the plight of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits is one of the greatest tragedies seen in post independent India.  The focus now is on helping the community consolidate itself and work towards conserving their rich cultural and social heritage.

Towards this process, the Kashmiri Pandits’ Association, Mumbai a registered charitable social trust, primarily endeavors to protect, preserve and propagate the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.  Over the last 40 years, it has undertaken numerous social and charitable campaigns, in and around Mumbai.  Its current project is the construction of a social and cultural centre SHARDA SADAN at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.  Unfortunately, this project has not been able to see completion due to severe fund constraints.  Once complete, it shall serve the society through various social initiatives including educational scholarships, medical relief camps and financial grants, home for the aged, diagnostic facilities for the less privileged.

Pankaj Udhas has become synonymous with sweet melody and this great singer deserves the credit for popularizing ghazals at a time when it seemed to be losing its foothold on the masses to pop music. In his endeavour to reach out to ghazal fans across the world, Pankaj began a series of albums based on classic Urdu poets.
