Radi-oh: RJ Sangeeta, Radio Mirchi: A new chapter every day

It's been three years since I became a Radio Jockey. From being the youngest jock at Radio Mirchi Mumbai to hosting the Number One mid-morning show- Dheemi Local', here is my journey.

Radio, I believe, is the most personal form of media that exists today and I consider myself to be super lucky to be a part of this exciting medium.

I was born and brought up in Mumbai. Right from childhood, I was a total Bollywood buff. I would dance to the tunes of Tamma Tamma Loge and Saat Samandar Paar with my elder sister. I remember once I was watching Lamhe' on television and I actually missed my school bus because the movie hadn't finished!

I would love having conversations with people I knew, and even those I didn't know. It was always very easy for me to break the ice and start a conversation. I never thought this would someday help me in my career!

There are very few people who can say that they love their job'. I am one of them. I LOVE being a Radio Jockey at Radio Mirchi!

I get to talk to lakhs of listeners every day… share my thoughts, get to be a part of their happy and not-so-happy times! It is an overwhelming feeling when a listener actually calls you up to say that his wife just delivered and he wants to share this news with you first. That's why I say it is a very personal medium.

Being a radio jockey is a great responsibility. Every word you say is important. People normally think if they are talkative they can become a good radio jockey. I beg to differ. To be a radio jockey, you need to know your city well, your people well, you need to multi-task and most important, you need to be yoursel; else a listener will never be able to relate with you.

The best part about my job is every day when I enter the studio, I know I am going to do something new. A new challenge awaits me. A new chapter is waiting to be read!

I do the show called Dheemi Local'. I play all hot songs of 90s and early 00s, the songs that I have grown up listening to! That's one reason why I LOVE my show! The fun of the work gets doubled in the vibrant environment of Mirchi and the supportive Mirchi gang!

I travel by the local train every day and I love it! That's where I actually get to know what the city is thinking about. I love it when there are these groups in the dheemi local who, in spite of the rush, want to share their breakfast with you! A lot of times I eavesdrop on conversations. In fact I wear my ear phones, put them on silent and listen to the people around me. Right from the woman who sells pyjamas inside the train, to the guy who sells stationery; to the same faces that travel with me, they make Dheemi Local' what it is!

On the show I capture the interesting stories and experiences of an aam mumbaikar who travels by dheemi local, works, has fun with family and friends over the weekend and then is back again to work on a Monday morning, enjoys the songs of the 90's  that make her smile and reminds her of her college/school days.

So come, be a very important part of my life on Dheemi Local' with your own Sangy AKA Sangeeta, between 11 am and 2 pm on Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, from Monday to Saturday. It's hot!
