MUMBAI: Essar Group's The MobileStore (TMS) has launched handsets under the brand name �Ray'.
The company says it has worked with equipment manufacturers on the design and features of the handsets. Four models will be rolled out in the first phase.
RAY M20 is the cheapest at Rs 2,399 and comes with an FM radio, MP3 player, expandable memory and GPRS.
The top-end phone at Rs 6,999 offers touch screen display, 3 megapixel camera, FM radio and recording and bluetooth among other features.
TMS says it has the advantages of having a warehouse network, IT infrastructure and a pan India retail presence with 1,300 stores.
TMS has not tied up with any single manufacturer for producing the handsets and will be sourcing them from China and Taiwan. Currently, TMS is obtaining handsets from three manufacturers.
TMS will also sell handsets through 20,000 stores across India, apart from its own outlets.
