Samsung unveils Galaxy S4

MUMBAI: Global Smartphone market leader Samsung unveiled its latest Smartphone the ‘Galaxy S4’ at a glittering show on 27 April. Priced at Rs 41,500 the handset with a host of features was launched by Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh.

The handset runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, octo-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage which is expandable to 64 GB.

The Galaxy S4 has a five-inch full HD super AMOLED touchscreen, 13 MP rear and 2 MP front camera and supports 3G networks.

Samsung has priced it aggressively against competitors in the premium category. At Rs 41,500, the S4 neatly undercuts its nearest competitor the iPhone (Rs 45,500). Other rivals are Sony Xperia Z, LG Optimus G and HTC One.

Samsung, which has usurped Nokia in the urban markets with 31.4 percent share against its rival’s 30.1 percent share has loaded the S4 with features.

The camera is equipped with a 13 megapixel rear camera with features including ‘Dual Shot’- which enables pictures to be taken from front and rear of camera, ‘Drama Shot’ which allow users to see action in one continuous shot, ‘Sound & Shot’ which stores both sound and voice in unison and ‘Animated Photo’ which allow users to take a series of shots, pick one part of the photo to move while others stay still.

For audiophiles, the phone has ‘Air Gesture’ that allow users to change the music track with a wave of their hand, ‘Samsung Smart Pause’ by which one can control the screen by where you look, ‘Group Play’ which enables up to eight S4 users to share music without Wi-Fi or cellular signal.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com at the launch, Samsung Mobile VP  Asim Warsi said the S4 was an extremely music friendly handset with features like Group Play which allowed users to share their music within a range of 50 metres.

“The youth are an important core market for Samsung phones and the S4 is a youth centric handset. It is great on music and is intuitive and easy to use. Beyond the handset, we have a music service that includes 2, 50,000 Indian tracks. S4 customers can avail of unlimited download of the songs,” he added.
