Big FM, Big Green Ganesha, BIG Green Heroes

MUMBAI: Big FM marks the tenth successful edition of ‘BIG Green Ganesha’ this year. Embarking on its journey from Mumbai city in 2008, the campaign has now reached over 20 major cities across India. With the launch of BIG Green Ganesha a decade ago, the radio network brought forth the concept of adopting eco-friendly practices on a mass-scale, during the festival. The award winning initiative, after having successfully seeded the innovative thought among the masses, this year, will further encourage the change-makers by felicitating them with the title of 'BIG Green Heroes'.

BIG Green Ganesha since its inception has massively reached out to the citizens enabling them to adopt eco-friendly practices. The campaign promoting the use of paper-mache technique in making Ganesh idols, and celebrating the pious festival without any harm to the environment, created an impact in the minds of the devotees. Over the course of 10 years the activity gained momentum building a strong sense of awareness and gained support from environmentalists, political dignitaries, celebrities and locals.

The campaign will span across 20 major cities this year including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Solapur, Goa, Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ahmedabad, Surat, Baroda, Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Hyderabad, Tirupati and Vizag. Speaking on the occasion, BIG FM spokesperson said, “Ten years ago, awareness surrounding eco-friendly Ganesha was negligible. Given the scale of the festival across cities, we felt it was imperative to create awareness about the ecological implications of the celebrations. Today, we are pleased to see that our efforts have paid-off since the concept of eco-friendly Ganesha has seeped into the mass consciousness. The success of this concept is a testimony to the support extended by our stakeholders and listeners, who have ensured the campaign’s wider reach across the years.”

Big FM will add to fervour of the 11-day long festivities by living up to the true meaning of Ganesha (One who eradicates hurdles). Each day, MJs will take up and discuss one cause among many such as cleanliness, women Safety, child labour and exploitation, dowry, cast discrimination, female infanticide, drug abuse, domestic violence, gender inequality and food wastage. Listeners will be encouraged to pledge their support and give up such social evils.

BIG FM, as a token to mark the tenth edition of the campaign, is giving listeners a digital darshan of the magnanimous Lalbaugcha Raja. Listeners can send in their prayers which will be displayed on an LED screen at the pandal. In turn, they will receive Ganesha’s

blessings in a form of a text message along with the picture of Bappa which will make for an exclusive darshan. As a part of the radio network’s long-standing association with Lalbaugcha Raja, MJs will share live updates from a studio booth set up at the pandal.

With the 10th successful year, BIG FM will take innovation to another level by impactfully co-relating with the eco-friendly aspect of the festival. Continuing on the proposition of music promise, a dedicated song will be created using natural and acoustic songs. A video showcasing the making of the song will be launched on the digital platform of the radio network during the campaign.
