Nine community radio stations get government nod

MUMBAI:The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has granted permission to nine institutions and NGOs for setting up of community radio stations (CRS) in Kerala.

The institutions and NGOs that got licences include DC School of Management, Kottayam, University of Calicut, Wayanad Social Service, Imperial Foundation Trust, Adoor, Vrindavan Trust, Cherthala, Thirumala Trust, Alappuzha, Mar Athanasius College of Advanced Studies, Thiruvalla and Amrutham Bio-organic Research Centre, Palakkad.

The government stated in a release that it is encouraging the setting up of radio stations as they play a crucial role in informing and empowering poor and vulnerable sections in the society.
